Painting by Samuel Spode circa 1825-1858. Horse portrait, Ronald, the Earl of Cardigan's charger at Balaclava. The Earl & his horse lead the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade; made famous in a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Ronald and the Earl were among the few survivors and returned safely to great acclaim to England. Ronald outlived his master by 4 years and upon death was stuffed and displayed at the family estate in Northamtonshire. This Oil on canvas was purchased from the estate sale at Sotheby's in London. Excellent condition. Measures 29" x 25".
