Norman Moonbloom is a loser, a peaceful misfit who, after prolonging his college years into his thirties, is forced to accept a job as an apartment manager in Manhattan offered by his brother. During his visits to tenants, where he must endure their angry complaints about the state of the buildings, he meets a diverse array of characters who are, in fact, archetypes of 1950s New York. Gradually, Norman begins to peer into the lives of his tenants, uncovering their deepest desires and sorrows. His interactions will trigger significant changes in Moonbloom's life, who, ignoring his brother’s profit-driven demands and common sense, embarks on a desperate attempt to improve their lives. The Tenants of Moonbloom is a dynamic, nostalgic, and powerful portrait of the Big Apple and the harshness of urban life. A great example of 1960s American literature, written by an author who, had it not been for his early death, would have been recognized as one of the greatest of his generation.
