YES, you can grow peaches in South Florida! Peach varieties like ‘Florida Grande’, ‘Tropic Beauty’, and ‘Tropic Sweet’ were specially-concocted by the University of Florida for growing zones with fewer chill hours.

Peaches are one of the most iconic and “traditional” fruits in the United States. Although they originated in China, peach trees were introduced to Mexico in the 16th century by the Spanish. 

Generally, yellow-flesh varieties have lower chill-hour requirements, allowing for a warmer growing zone. Expect fruits in spring. We recommend netting or caging your fruits to reduce the number of your precious peaches shared with backyard critters.

Warm winters and peach rust are the primary detractors to growing peaches. Treat rust with sulfur.

Peach trees prefer well-draining soil and enjoy a sandy/loamy consistency. For best yield, remove dead branches and thin out branches with no leaves.
